Advanced Nano-Materials for Biomedical Applications

Nano-materials are exceptionally small-sized materials and have large specific surface areas, which render them with unique physicochemical properties. They have been vastly explored in the domain of the biomedical application because of their excellent bio-mimicking and biocompatibility. They are sensitive to slights of the physicochemical changes, which helps them to be utilized in several drug delivery systems. In this chapter, we have highlighted the basic properties of nano-materials which are crucial or their biological activity. Besides, several important biomedical applications of nano-materials such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, bioimaging, and biosensing are discussed. With such wide horizon of applications and customization in respect to size and structure, nano-materials can prove instrumental in making the dream of personalized medicine a reality.
