Polymers for Biomedical Application
摘要
An in-depth examination of polymers in biomedical applications is provided in this chapter. Due to their versatility and unique properties, biomedical applications of polymers include drug delivery, tissue engineering, and bioimplants. The chapter begins by discussing the fundamental properties of polymers that contribute to their success in the biomedical field, such as biocompatibility, mechanical strength, flexibility, and controlled drug release capabilities. It then delves into the synthesis methods used to create tailored polymers for biomedical applications, including conventional and advanced techniques. The chapter explores the diverse applications of polymers in biomedicine, highlighting their significance in tissue engineering scaffolds (TES), drug delivery systems (DDS), implantable devices (IDs), and diagnostic tools (DTs). Furthermore, discussions on recent advancements and future perspectives in polymer-based biomedical applications, emphasizing integrating multifunctional and intelligent polymer systems for improved diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic efficacy, have been included. This chapter serves as a valuable resource for researchers, scientists, and professionals in biomedical engineering and materials science, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the potential and versatility of polymers in addressing critical challenges and advancing healthcare technologies.
