Cost–Benefit Analysis of Adoption of Green Materials in Conventional Building to Improve Green Rating
摘要
Green buildings are receiving discernible attention because conventional construction involves enormous consumption of natural resources, energy, and material which results in increased costs in the construction and operation phases. By building in a sustainable way, these disadvantages can be reduced. In this work, we have made a cost comparison between conventional building and green building by quantity surveying. We rehabilitated a conventional building into a green building by replacing various sustainable building materials and including rooftop building-integrated photovoltaics. A cost analysis was performed between green building and conventional building and it was concluded that the replacement of conventional building materials with sustainable building materials reduces the cost of construction by 3.15%, whereas by adding top floor open terrace, building-integrated photovoltaics to the green building increased the cost by 0.81% compared with the conventional building which can be considered negligible and that be covered over a period of time in the operational phase with its energy savings.
