Effect of Strain Rate on Mechanical Behaviour of OFE Copper and Molybdenum

The paper presents the experimental results of quasi-static tension test and high strain rate tensile and compression tests carried out on OFE copper and molybdenum materials using universal testing machine (UTM) and Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) testing setup. The copper samples were studied in the strain rate ranging from 0.001 to 1700 s−1 and the maximum true stress increases from 340 to 434 MPa. The molybdenum samples were studied in the strain rate ranging from 0.001 to 1500 s−1 and the maximum true stress increases from 460 to 815 MPa. The effect of high strain rate loading under compression and tension are studied. The strain hardening parameter and strain rate sensitivity parameters of both materials are determined. The behaviour shows that both the materials are strain rate-sensitive in the studied strain rate region.
