The Sui Dynasty unified the whole country and ended the North–South division that lasted for more than two hundred and seventy years since the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty, which followed the Sui Dynasty, was politically and militarily powerful and economically and culturally prosperous.
