Exploration of Boundary Layer Transition Through Various Roughness Patterns

The current study focuses on experimental investigations of boundary layer thickness carried out in an open-circuit wind tunnel with various roughness patterns. For a wind tunnel investigation, roughness elements are employed to model turbulence and boundary layer properties. The roughness pattern includes various types of rectangular blocks of different sizes and placements with respect to wind direction. The velocity information gathered at various locations and under various circumstances allowed for the measurement of boundary layer thickness along the wind flow direction. Under various conditions, the relative effects of the various patterns and the boundary layer growths are studied. It is found that the length, free stream velocity, and direction of the roughness have an impact on boundary layer thickness. The predicted boundary layer thickness values of the generated correlation are compared to the corresponding experimental values, and it is demonstrated that the results are rather appropriate.
