Inter-Code Comparison Exercise for Predicting Transient Helium Distribution in a Scale Down Containment Facility, CSF

摘要

In case of severe accident in water-cooled nuclear power reactors, hydrogen may get released into the nuclear containment due to metal–water reaction. The released hydrogen may form undesirable combustible pockets inside the containment. CFD-based hydrogen distribution studies are required to determine the combustible pockets in the containment so that hydrogen recombiners can be placed at suitable locations in the containment. The CFD codes must be validated against experiments and benchmarked before use in actual containment application. A scaled down multiple compartment Containment Studies Facility (CSF) has been commissioned at BARC, and helium distribution experiments have been conducted. Before conducting the experiments, blind benchmarking exercise was carried out with various CFD codes. The details of CFD codes used, their modelling parameters, details of experiment and prediction of different codes are discussed in the present paper.
