Quality Standards and Measures in Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Procedures

It is vital for any pediatric cardiac surgical program to establish and follow quality standards and measures to achieve the best possible outcomes for pediatric cardiac surgical procedures. In this brief chapter, we highlight some key processes that are important in this context, such as the Surgical Decision-Making, Informed Consent for Surgery, Intra-Operative Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography, along with short overview of Congenital Cardiac Registry Definitions and Risk Scores for benchmarking, quality assurance, and performance monitoring and improvement.
