Guideline for Ultrasound Evaluation for Diaphragmatic Dysfunction in Post-operative Cardiac Children

Phrenic nerve injury during pediatric cardiac surgery can lead to diaphragmatic dysfunction that affects recovery and outcome. The use of ultrasound (US) for the assessment of diaphragmatic dysfunction after pediatric cardiac surgery is essential and very helpful. This guideline summarizes the role of Bedside Ultrasound performed by intensivists to diagnose diaphragmatic dysfunction and the need for plication after pediatric cardiac surgery.
