摘要

Plant nutraceuticals have attracted attention around the globe because of their several health benefits when incorporated into a diverse diet. These effects include anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and antioxidant qualities. These positive benefits have been attributed to the existence of active chemicals in food or generated by de novo biosynthetic pathways within the plant. Concentrated forms of foods or plants may constitute nutraceuticals. However, they are likely to include unwelcome crop protection agents such as pesticides, in addition to other pollutants (such mycotoxins) that may have been accumulated during the process of extraction. There is minimal evidence that supplements or nutraceuticals benefit adults who eat healthfully, despite their widespread use. However, some of these products have the potential to be extremely hazardous. Furthermore, many people neglect to disclose to their doctors that they use supplements. There is hence a considerable likelihood of harmful drug-supplement interactions.
