Combinations of prebiotics and probiotics are known as “synbiotics,” because certain prebiotic compounds help probiotic bacteria expand. Supplements and specific foods like dairy products, whole grains, and cabbage contain synbiotics. Together, probiotics and prebiotics are capable of providing a variety of health advantages, including those for our immune systems, metabolic processes, mental health, and the gastrointestinal tract. Numerous factors are thought to contribute to the health benefits of synbiotics. Intestinal inflammation is a symptom of IBD. Scientists believe that synbiotics may improve IBD patients’ symptoms by lowering intestinal inflammation. Travelers experience diarrhea due to contaminated food or drink after visiting a place with inadequate sanitation regulations. It causes cramps and diarrhea. It might be stopped by synthetic organisms. While laboratory studies suggest that synbiotics have many advantages, additional research is necessary to determine how they truly influence the human body. Getting them to customers presents some difficulties for scientists as well. They must discover a way to keep the probiotics alive while they are stored. Additionally, they need to figure out how to guarantee that products genuinely contain enough active probiotics to be beneficial. Symbiotic products are not strictly controlled by the FDA because they are viewed as dietary supplements. Therefore, their effectiveness and safety may not have been investigated. This chapter emphasizes various clinical trials and safety levels of synbiotics.
