摘要

Synbiotics are a superior quality combination of prebiotics and probiotics. In general, in synbiotics prebiotics favors the growth of probiotics and their metabolite production. Consuming both prebiotics and probiotics (synbiotics) simultaneously may increase the survival of advantageous bacteria during their transit through the upper gastrointestinal system as a result, and have a bigger positive effect on germs that have already colonized the intestines. The chapter places a strong emphasis on the current understanding of synbiotics, their relevance to the prevention of particular diseases, and their role in both humans and animals. It also contains details on the probiotic’s present safety status. Future work will concentrate on developing synbiotics that are more beneficial and safe.
