Design of Wideband Microstrip Patch Antenna at 38 GHz for 5G Network

摘要

The fifth-generation (5G) communication networks are an emerging technology with a very faster data transmitting rate. Designing a suitable antenna, especially, microstrip patch antenna for 5G system is a fascinating task for researchers. This paper reveals design and analysis of a 38 GHz patch antenna with wideband property. The foundation of this research is a simple rectangular patch antenna with dual rectangular slots. RT5880 with a thickness of 1 mm dielectric constant of 2.2 with coaxial feed is used as substrate. The simulated results using Matlab of the patch antenna are satisfactory. Return loss of − 26.97 dB and VSWR of 1.094 are quite acceptable concerning the required characteristics of 5G patch antennas. Moreover, a wide bandwidth of 3.25 GHz and directivity above 6.69 db are very much suitable for high-speed connectivity. The proposed patch antenna surpasses some existing 5G patch antenna designs at 38 GHz.
