Trivial Moments of Everyday Life

This chapter is concerned with the notion of memory-making and memory-remembranceMemorymemory-making as a mentalMental /somaticPhysical activity that can potentially manipulate the perceptions of pastPast and future. My inquiryInquiry is situated in the methodology of a/r/tography and the conceptConcept of flâneuse walking. Accordingly, I practiced the artArt of slowing downSlowing down when walking on Vancouver’s streets, observing city buildings, collecting visual data, and exploring my memoriesMemorymemories as research materialsMaterial. I viewed realityReality/realities, memories, and imaginations as various layers of perception and reflected on my findings through autobiographicalAutobiographyautobiographical writingWriting and manipulated photography. In addition to the photographs of the buildings of Vancouver, I benefited from my archived pictures of the sculpturesSculpture that I made in Tehran. The latter played the role of symbolic elements of my pastPast, while the former represented my presentPresent everydayEveryday life. Digital paintingPainting, then, served as a poetic approach to transform and manipulate the images of my pastPast, present, and future life. As a result, my exploration of the act of memory-makingMemorymemory-making shaped an in-betweenIn-between understanding of the topic, depicted with a sense of uncertaintyUncertain/uncertainties, decayDecay, and metamorphosedTexted-art ‘texted artArttexted-art.’
