Worldwide an estimated 354,864 new cases and 177,384 deaths from lip and oral cavity occurred in 2018. World age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) per 100,000 for lip, oral cavity cancer was 4.0 as per the GLOBOCAN 2018 estimates. In India, oral cavity cancer is an important public health problem with increasing incidence and late-stage presentation of the disease. Lip, oral cavity cancer is the top most cancer among males (92,011 new cases) and fourth most common cancer in females in India. The ASIR for lip, oral cavity cancer in India is estimated at 9.1 for both sexes, 13.9 for men and 4.3 for females per 100,000 population. In 2018, lip oral cavity cancer was the second most common cancer in India accounting for 11,9992 new cases and 72,616 deaths [1].
