Augmented Reality in Health Care: A Review

In today’s world, augmented reality (AR) is a highly challenging and emerging technology that presents some additional information to the existing real world. This is done by using special glasses like Google glasses or with the help of advanced devices. This technology is an advanced version of virtual reality. In this technology, we do not have to work in the virtual world, but being in the real world, we are getting some additional information. Several applications of augmented reality in health care: neurosurgery, dental surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and otorhinolaryngological were reviewed in this study. This research also focused on the proposed algorithm for developing AR tools or applications in the healthcare system. A computer vision method has been successfully found to employ AR for otoendoscopy with remarkable accuracy, mentioned as the most effective strategy to enhance neurosurgery. Therefore, this paper briefly describes AR’s application, challenges, opportunities, and the best algorithms proposed in AR healthcare technology with possible solutions.
