Prospecting 5G in the Mauritian Market Through the Diffusion of Innovation

5G technology is entering the Mauritian market in hopes of bringing cutting-edge technology to the country which promises to be a tech hub and a connected nation. Although older versions like 3 and 4G predominate and the latter is likely to penetrate the market better, 5G intends to develop and become a popular concept. This paper analyses the development of Internet technologies through a generational approach and explains how Mauritius is adopting the latest 5G. Although 5G offers advantages in terms of bandwidth, coverage, speed, and flexibility, it is affected by initial market entry costs, customer adoption as well as coverage. However, there is a prospect that an S-shaped progression in the diffusion of innovation could drive its adoption in the years to come and even ensure its stability within a competitive Internet technology market.
