Bandgap Engineering and Visible Luminescence in Cubic Yttrium Oxide via Lanthanides Doping/Co-Doping

We report synthesis of pure and lanthanide doped Y2O3 by a facile citrate mediated sol–gel approach. The prepared samples are investigated for their optical properties via UV–Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The Tauc’s plot is used for the determination of band gap of the prepared samples. Effect of co-doping is also emphasized for the enhancement of luminescence in the entire visible region. In this paper, an effort is made to optimize the absorbance and photoluminescence (PL) in pure, Tb3+ doped and Tb3+/Dy3+ co-doped samples of Yttria. The obtained emission results are emphasized via chromaticity curves.
