In the context of climate change and the continuous loss of natural habitats, the genetic resources of plants, especially those in the wild, are constantly at risk of disappearing. This is unfavorable news for the stability of the global ecological environment and the sustainable utilization of plant resources. With the rapid development of life sciences worldwide, the establishment of specialized biological databases and data-sharing platforms has become an important measure to promote scientific research progress in this field. The China National GeneBank (CNGB) is a comprehensive biological genetic resource gene bank. CNGB is a government-owned and government-funded non-profit institution, which is operated by BGI-Research. In terms of the preservation and utilization of plant genetic resources, CNGB has built a highly digitized sample depository and a bioinformatics database with solid storage and computing capabilities. Through a one-stop approach, from living organisms to digitalization and then to the bioinformatics database, CNGB reduces the time and economic costs of preserving plant genetic resources and improves the efficiency of scientific research, genetic resource protection, and utilization. This provides a large data source guarantee for subsequent plant resource conservation, basic research, and molecular breeding. To facilitate the public sharing of the above data, CNGB has established a unified external open data-sharing platform, the China National Genebank Database (CNGBdb). It is a database that provides life science big data-sharing services for the scientific research community. CNGBdb provides integrated database construction services for other partners holding plant germplasm resources and biological data. At the same time, CNGBdb hosts an online biological data analysis platform that includes various workflows and scripts. It provides services for data providers as well as data mining stakeholders, covering the entire process from germplasm resources to biological information data and downstream analysis. In summary, through its unique model, CNGB has achieved full chain preservation and application of plant resources from their places of origin to digitization. This will promote further research on plant diversity and sustainable utilization. This chapter will introduce the China National GeneBank, showcasing its organizational overview, the collection and storage of plant seeds and samples, the storage and utilization of biological information databases, the seamless connection between plant samples and biological information data, as well as the relevant protocols and services.
