Methodology of Investigation of the Hydrogen Influence on Ferromagnet

Destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods are used to detect hydrogen damage in ferromagnetic structural materials. If the destructive methods have found their application in laboratory test conditions, the NDT methods are increasingly used in engineering practice to monitor the technical state of equipment both during its operation and during technological shutdowns. NDT methods, such as X-ray, eddy currents, and ultrasonic have gained some recognition. But even today they no longer meet the growing scientific and technical requirements for diagnosing objects of long-term operation. This has stimulated the development of new highly sensitive effective methods of NDT for detecting local damage to ferromagnets (especially hydrogen) and means for their implementation, which are based primarily on new phenomena and effects of magnetism. The investigations described in this chapter are aimed at a partial solution to this problem.
