Homestays as a Livelihood and Sustainable Rural Tourism with Reference to Rajasthan
摘要
The Ministry of Tourism is striving to promote India as a rural tourist destination and is interested in creating and promoting local products through tourism in order to bolster local communities and create income and jobs in rural areas. And homestays have been very popular for promoting the growth of rural tourism in the post-COVID-19 period, when social isolation, cleanliness, sanitation, and privacy have elevated to the top objectives for travellers. However, homestays are not a new concept in India and are particularly popular in rural regions. In search of a genuine and local travel experience that emphasizes cultural practices, lifestyle, and legacy, many domestic and foreign visitors to the nation have started choosing cozy homestays over traditional hotels. For instance, Sikkim and Ladakh’s homestays have significantly increased tourism to these regions. In rural economies, homestays can serve as a livelihood strategy. Through a review of the literature from the last 15 years, this research will concentrate on the potential of homestay for the growth of rural tourism in Rajasthan. It will also explore how these homestays might be encouraged for the future. Homestays have gained popularity in rural regions, according to the study’s findings, with the purpose of conserving customs and heritage, assisting the local population, promoting regional cuisines, and safeguarding the environment. Additionally, homestay has been praised with revitalizing local pride in its customs and culture. The biggest concerns for homestay providers, however, are certain external difficulties rather than the few issues that exist inside the local community.
