Revolution and Language Change
摘要
Language change is acknowledged by historical linguists to be a gradual process under normal social circumstances. However, dramatic social and historical events often can be seen to create rapid, sometimes lasting changes in language and language use. Among these events are conquest, trade, migration, and social revolution. Conquest, trade, and migration leave the strongest imprint on language vocabulary, and occasionally grammar, creating a creolization process fusing elements of two or more languages (c.f Trubetzkoy 1928).
