Colorectal Cancer and Role of Biomarkers in Diagnosis, Prognostification and Personalized Treatment
摘要
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide as per GLOBOCAN 2020. One out of five patients is diagnosed with metastatic CRC. Despite the advancements in diagnostic methodology, people all over the world are still reluctant to screen themselves for CRC because of the invasive nature of screening tests. Moreover, the already used serological markers are not specific for CRC. In the recent time, various biomarkers have shown promising results in diagnosis, assessment of treatment response and early detection of recurrence. Here, we discuss array of biomarkers ranging from their potential usefulness to obtain early and less-invasive diagnosis to their potential implementation in the treatment paradigm of CRC.
