摘要

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in India, with the age-adjusted incidence rate and mortality per 100,000 women of 25.8 and 12.7, respectively. The incidence is different in urban and rural India with one-third in urban areas and one-ninth in rural areas. Overall, the stage distribution ranges from 40% to 50% for early, 30% to 40% for locally advanced and 5% to 10% for metastatic setting. Early dissemination of the breast cancer cells provides rationale for adjuvant systemic therapy which substantially reduces the risk of distant recurrence and breast cancer mortality.
