Surgical Oncology

Surgical oncology or oncological surgery deals with the surgical treatment of cancers or cancerous conditions with an aim for cure in most instances. There have been advancements in the surgical techniques and methods over time, and the scope for surgical excision, not limiting to treatment of metastatic disease, oncological reconstruction, and palliative surgeries, has also expanded. Minimally invasive methods are increasingly being applied to treatment algorithms. This chapter provides an overview of surgical oncology and its role in cancer management.
