New Type ICs

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Internet of things, big data, and other new applications, the demand for high-performance and energy-efficient computing hardware is growing. Traditional integrated circuits (ICs) processors based on von Neumann architecture face performance bottlenecks due to the memory wall effect. New integrated circuits with novel chip architecture and new principles are being proposed and studied. In this chapter, new type ICs are briefly introduced and discussed, including brain-inspired chip, reconfigurable computing integrated circuits, terahertz integrated circuit, quantum integrated circuit, and cognitive radio integrated circuits. The characteristics and application of the new IC technology are also addressed.
