Yield Point A Strength of Materials term; a stage in a tension test, when a material loses its resistance to counter the external applied force, that is, it yields to external force; a material loses elasticity and becomes a plastic body after the yield point; not well defind in case of brittle materials; the stress corresponding to this point is called yield stress, which is a design stress in engineering applications.
