Complications of Nephrectomy

There is a long list of possible complications during nephrectomy. Surgeon should be well acquainted with the abdominal anatomy. A careful selection of the patient is the key with a special focus on age, baseline renal and hepatic function, and comorbidities. Suitability for laparoscopic resections should be assessed thoroughly before moving ahead with the operation. A low threshold should exist for open conversion in case of pyonephrotic adhered kidney or where difficulties are anticipated.
