Radiation Enteritis in Patients Receiving Abdominal Radiation Therapy

Radiation enteritis (RE) is a known toxicity arising from radiation therapy to abdomen and pelvis. Effective management of RE requires its identification, investigations, dietary as well as medical intervention. Acute RE is generally mild to moderate and rarely severe in intensity. Mild to moderate RE is generally self limiting and resolves within few days of treatment interruption, symptomatic management and dietary changes. Severe cases needs multidisciplinary approach and may require more intensive medical management.
