Prevention and Management of Complications of Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Treatment of Cancers of Prostate

摘要

ADT is the used as a treatment modality in all stages of prostate cancer. It can be done by both surgical castration and medical castration. Surgical castration involves removal of testis which is a one time procedure and is cost effective, however he side effects are irreversible. Medical castration is done by using drugs that inhibits the testosterone that includes GnRH agonist, antagonist and anti androgens. Medical castration is done at regular intervals and is thus expensive but the side effects are reversible. Most common side effect of castration is Flare phenomenon however chronic side effects include osteoporosis, sexual dysfunction, vasomotor symptoms, fall and fracture, cardiovascular side effects to name a few of these side effects are managed by medical means.
