Determining Risks and Treating of Radiation Pneumonitis After Thoracic Radiation

  • Ashok Kumar

摘要

Radiation induced pneumonia is a frequently encountered complication seen in patients undergoing radiation for thoracic malignancies. It was more prevalent in the two dimensional radiation planning era. With the advent of latest treatment technologies, the incidence has decreased tremendously. Radiation pneumonitis is frequently complicated by the underlying malignancy, infections and pleural or pericardial effusion. Although no specific guidelines exist for its management but a combination of drugs and meticulous treatment planning can be highly effective in its prevention.
