Prevention and Management of Cutaneous Toxicity Encountered in Patients Undergoing Radiation Therapy

Radiation induced skin reactions are one of the most prevalent side effects of radiation. They are classified as acute or chronic depending on their time of onset post radiation. Numerous treatment-related and patient-related parameters play an imperative role in their manifestation. Multiple studies have demonstrated diverse management strategies yet there are no fixed guidelines. The treatment, therefore, remains individualized with key strategies highlighting on preventive measures like maintaining hygiene and decreasing escalation into higher grades with use of various agents topical and oral agents.
