The widespread application of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in conventional farming has resulted in a series of environmental and agronomic issues, including soil deterioration, biodiversity loss, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. These unsafe practices endanger the long-term vitality of food production systems while exacerbating the global climate problem. As a result, the notion of sustainable agriculture has evolved as an important paradigm, stressing ecological balance, resource efficiency, and resilience. This chapter looks at compost and vermicompost as transformational instruments for addressing these issues. These environmentally friendly approaches increase soil fertility, boost microbial diversity, and minimize reliance on chemical inputs by recycling organic waste into nutrient-rich supplements. Compost and vermicompost not only provide a natural means to revitalize damaged soils, but they also help with waste management and carbon sequestration. By integrating these practices into agricultural systems, farmers can achieve greater sustainability while fostering environmental health and long-term productivity.
