Bladder Mucosa Graft

Proximal hypospadias cases often necessitate complex, stepwise reconstruction procedures, with redo surgeries presenting challenges and unpredictable outcomes. The resulting condition, known as hypospadias cripples, is characterized by unhealthy scars, residual curvature, and ineffective urethroplasty. Achieving satisfactory outcomes for these patients remains elusive, particularly due to the lack of healthy penile skin. Early attempts at reconstruction using bladder mucosa tube grafts faced criticism due to complications such as mucosal prolapse and anastomotic strictures. To address skin breakdown issues, the concept of tubularized tunneled bladder mucosa grafts (TBMG) emerged, aiming to provide a pause for tissue revascularization and skin covering.
