Immunotherapy and Oncolytic Virus Would Provide New Adjuvant Therapy

Tumor immunotherapy aims to stimulate and restore the body’s natural immune response to recognize and attack tumor cells. This can be achieved by activating or mobilizing the immune system or by infusing immune-active cells. In addition to traditional vaccines and antibodies, tumor immunotherapy now encompasses a range of approaches, including small molecule targeted drugs, cytokines, gene modifications, and other derivatives developed through various immunological methods. With the integration of modern biotechnology, tumor immunotherapy has emerged as the fourth mode of cancer treatment, alongside surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, known as tumor bioimmunotherapy. Malignant brain tumors are currently treated with surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, which can be described by patients as “sharp knives, branding irons, and poisons.” Immunotherapy, in contrast, has fewer overall adverse effects, is more specific, and holds great potential for personalized treatment. As a result, immunotherapy has become a major area of research in translational medicine and an important practice for treating malignant brain tumors.
