A New Finding in Myopia Research (III): The Reduction of Choroidal Blood Flow May Be Involved in the Occurrence and Development of Myopia

The role of the choroid in the pathogenesis of myopia has been relatively little studied compared to that of the retina, which receives external visual signals, and the sclera, the ultimate effector of myopia production. It lies between the retina and the sclera, transmits visual signals received by the retina to the sclera, and is rich in blood flow, supplying oxygen and nutrients primarily to the outer retina. It is therefore likely that changes in choroidal blood flow have some influence on the reception and conversion of retinal light signals, which in turn play an important role in the regulation of ocular growth.
