In this book, we focused on the ways in which companies that produce goods and services for sports implement innovative processes. Related to this premise, the objectives of this book are to offer a tool for scholars, managers, and entrepreneurs engaged in the sports sector. For this reason, these objectives are multiple and related to the levels and types of analysis considered. To meet the first objectives, the state of the art and scientific knowledge in relation to sports-related innovation was analyzed, both through bibliometric and systematic analysis of the literature. Regarding the bibliometric analysis, contained in Chap. 2 , Bibliometrix software was used (Aria & Cuccurullo, 2017) and the dataset was extracted from Scopus. This analysis offered an initial screening of the existing literature and allowed the identification of the main topics of the research domain from a conceptual point of view. In addition, this analysis provided insight into the structural and cognitive patterns that underlie the scientific landscape related to the analyzed topic. The bibliometric analysis (Chap. 2 ) allowed us to know how scientific production has been distributed over the years and, in particular, how it has grown in 2021 (+63% compared to 2020) and how it has attracted the attention of many scholars. In addition, bibliometric analysis made it possible to highlight the main journals in which studies are published (Textile Outlook International, World Sports Activewear, and European Sport Management Quarterly are the top three that receive the largest number of papers), the most influential authors (Ratten, Winand, Scheerder, Anagnostopoulos, Fisher, and Svensson), and how they have collaborated over time and, through the study of co-citations, how they have influenced each other (intellectual structure). On the other hand, the study of keywords and their co-occurrence allowed for a screening of the main themes (open innovation, creativity, business model, social entrepreneurship) on which the scholarly landscape has focused. On the other hand, through the systematic literature review (Chap. 3 ) it was possible to observe how the topic of sports-related innovation was treated from multiple perspectives, thanks to a thorough analysis of 151 studies contained on the Scopus, Ebsco, and Google Scholar databases. Through an inductive approach (Petticrew & Roberts, 2008), it was possible to note that innovation in sports is a topic that involves different actors (sports organizations, individuals, technical equipment companies, etc.), different focuses of analysis (entrepreneurship, technology, social issues, management, etc.), and cross-cutting themes (sponsorship, tourism, business strategies, use of social networks, development of new equipment, etc.).
