Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Bio-Inspired Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine
摘要
The demand for renewable energy sources has witnessed a significant surge in recent years. Conventional wind turbines face challenges in achieving high-performance conditions, necessitating the development of modified structural designs. This study focuses on the application of bio-inspired serrated Gurney flaps with different heights that are implemented to the turbine rotors for augmenting the aerodynamics of vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs), aiming to enhance efficiency and overall power generation. Using the topology techniques on wind turbines involves optimizing the design and structure by utilizing different algorithms and simulation tools in arrangement of materials within the turbine components and modifying the shapes. Drawing inspiration from nature, these flaps are designed to mimic biological features that optimize aerodynamic performance. Through a combination of experimental and numerical approaches, the study provides comparison between conventional and bio-inspired VAWTs. The findings contribute valuable insights to the field of sustainable energy by harnessing nature- inspired solutions for enhanced VAWT capabilities.
