Landfill is an area where solid waste is dumped for further handling ( https://sagemetering.com/applications/technical-notes/landfill-gas-monitoring-recovery-and-flaring/ ). The further handling involves segregation of various type of wastes, compressing the wastes and dispatching. The waste after segregation is compressed for ease of handling and dispatched for further processing which could be re-cycling or combustion. Re-cycling process generated a new product, such as paper recycled can be converted to useful products Fig. 11.1 such as wooden boxes, greeting cards and carry bags. Glass bottle re-cycled can be converted to decorative articles. Waste can also be used to generate various forms of energy as thermal and electrical, for which it is transported to Waste-To-Energy Plants.
