In recent years, living world is severely threatened by the imminent issues of emergent pollutants. Microplastics (MPs) are one of the major emergent contaminants that possess properties toxic to any organism such as high rigidity, durable characteristics, and extensive resistance in water and soil. MPs transfer through a variety of ecological networks mainly via human activity. Due to this reason, numerous technologies have been originated in order to eradicate MPs, but biochar adsorption process is receiving more limelight because of its widespread availability, efficiency, low energy requirement, eco-friendly technology, and cost-effectiveness in removing MPs from the environment. Biochar functions as bioremediation technique, derived from the pyrolysis of various organic residues. Therefore, the chapter mainly focuses on the various aspects of MPs and their removal methods especially via biochar technology.

摘要
