Blockchain, an immutable form of distributed ledger competent of autonomously storing data, has attracted considerable attention in research, particularly regarding its potential application in microgrids (MGs) for cybersecurity. Despite significant attempts to integrate blockchain into the cybersecurity of MGs, there remains a dearth of a comprehensive survey encompassing both application and technological approaches. To address this gap, we carried out an exhaustive review on the utilization of blockchain for enhancing cybersecurity in MGs. This review paper provides current insights into ideas, architectures, and implementation techniques relevant to the incorporation of blockchain in MG cybersecurity. The objective of this paper is to furnish valuable guidance and serve as a reference for future research endeavors dedicated to BC for cybersecurity in MGs.
