Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe type of stroke with high mortality and morbidity rates. Currently, there is no effective clinical treatment strategy to enhance patient survival. The pathogenesis of ICH involves primary and secondary brain injuries. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) shows promise as a treatment for ICH, as it can decrease cell death, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation in the affected area. NMN has the potential to mitigate tPA-induced hemorrhagic transformation following cerebral ischemia without affecting the thrombolytic activity of tPA, as well as reduce infarct volume expansion and cerebral edema caused by delayed tPA. Therefore, NMN could be a valuable drug for addressing tPA-induced hemorrhagic transformation.
