Revolution by AI: Clean Energy Production and Utilization

Clean energy is produced from renewable resources that are replenished by nature on its own, such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass, and nuclear. These sources when utilized to generate power result in reduced carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Making use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based algorithms and tools in clean energy production and utilization carry the potential to achieve higher productivity, efficiency, and dependability in this domain. The application areas include components’ design optimization, operations, monitoring and control, predictive maintenance, energy prediction, extensive data handling, and alike. AI-driven innovations, namely, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and machine learning, have not just facilitated day-to-day operations but also hugely improved the functioning of the power plants in longer run, thereby enhancing the infrastructural lifespan and making the workplaces safer. However, switching to clean-energy sources does not come without its own set of challenges. This chapter portrays the role of AI in the field of prominent renewable energy systems, their strengths, promising functional areas, maintenance procedures, and constraints thereon.
