Since the establishment of New China, the nation’s road sector has seen unprecedented rapid growth, particularly after the economic reforms and opening up, with highway development progressing rapidly and the total length surpassing 5 million km, making China the world leader in road mileage. The proverb “To get rich, first build roads” aptly illustrates how the swift expansion of highways has supported and spurred the consistent and rapid development of China’s economy.
