Digital breast tomosynthesis allows the breast tissue to be viewed as multiple thin slices in standard mammographic projections. It thus removes the confounding factor of overlapping breast parenchyma and hence has shown to have higher cancer detection rates and reduced recall rates. Also, lesion margins and characterization becomes better with increased reader confidence.
