Collapse and Permeability Behaviour of Unsaturated Fly Ash
摘要
The current study emphasizes the collapse and permeability aspects of compacted unsaturated fly ash to justify its use in various infrastructural projects such as embankments, filling low-lying areas and road construction. The collapse potential has been determined by a double ring oedometer test. The same results have been extrapolated to find the permeability of fly ash in an unsaturated state under similar density conditions. The results show that the permeability coefficient (k) is in the range of 2.7 × 10–7 to 4.51 × 10–8 cm/s and the maximum collapse (0.84%) is found at maximum vertical stress of 3.2 kg/cm2. Hence, it can be deduced from the results that fly ash is recommended for bulk utilization with possible remedies to reduce the collapse potential of the soil based on the conditions of saturation.
