Drought and salinity are some of the important environmental factors affecting plants as important stress factors. Saline habitats are regarded as marginal areas in the world hosting a unique plant cover called halophytes, resistant to salt stress. The naturally growing plant taxa are very important natural living components in bioengineering studies. They provide alternative natural practical solutions. The bioengineering can provide significant advantages in evaluating this natural plant diversity and understanding the ecological and economic functions of plants inhabiting such areas. In this chapter seven important leguminous halophytes namely Alhagi maurorum, Halimodendron halodendron, Lotus halophilus, Medicago littoralis, Medicago marina, Sphaerophysa kotschyana and Tetragonolobus maritimus have been selected from a vast record of Turkiye’s halophyte taxa. These leguminous halophyte taxa were evaluated in the light of publisications available on their usability in potential bioengineering applications in Turkiye and suggestions are presented.
