Noise is the unwanted sound of a major pollutant (IS 10534: Method of Measurement of Airborne Noise Emitted by Gas Turbine Installations). Every industrial worker dreams of a comfortable workplace free from unwanted noise. Noise pollution scauses ill effects like hearing loss, tiredness, weakness, and higher blood pressure on the health of industrial workers. In the textile industry, there are different kinds of machinery that create unwanted noise. Therefore, to improve the workplace environment and reduce unwanted noise in industries, finding effective and harmless noise control methods is very important. In this paper, we have discussed the reduction of the noise level in the textile industry using agro-waste materials. Different agro-waste materials and their properties were studied. Agro-waste materials chosen for noise reduction are groundnut shells, sugarcane bagasse, coconut coir, maize waste, newspaper, wheat flour, natural latex, etc. Different proportions of the specimen were chosen of selected agro-waste from which four were found ideal for noise reduction. The suitability of the specimen is tested by impedance tube test using a sound level meter and calculated noise reduction coefficient (NRC). The effective use of agricultural waste material to overcome this problem is discussed in this paper.
