An artificial neural network (ANN)-based algorithm for detecting Bragg wavelengths is proposed in this paper for interrogating fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors using a CCD array spectrometer. The proposed algorithm addresses the actual non-ideal behaviors of components, including optical intensity variation over time. It also accommodates the fact that FBG sensor nominal Bragg wavelengths often change during field deployment due to variations in pre-strain or ambient conditions. Finally, the proposed ANN model is compared with traditional methods of determining FBG Bragg wavelengths, such as curve fitting and centroid finding.
