Pigmentation in Systemic Diseases: Evaluation and Management

The skin is the largest organ of the body, and it is a mirror of internal diseases. Skin color is determined by melanin, hemoglobin and carotenoids. Melanin is the major determinant of skin color and it is synthesized by melanocytes. Constitutive skin color is genetically determined and facultative skin color is induced by sun light and hormones.
